OYSC Team Referee Policy - Mar 16, 2008

It has been the long standing policy of OYSC for each team to provide two, currently certified grade 8 referees to participate in our program. If a team doesn't have any currently certified grade 8 referees, it can provide the names of two candidates currently enrolled in a referee course, thereby indicating the team will fulfill its referee requirement. OYSC provides free grade 8 referee courses each year (please see posted course dates).

Our soccer program depends on the volunteers participation of all of our members and, as stated above, it will be the responsibility of each team to provide two certified referees for the 2008 playing season. Referee volunteers officiate at home games (approximately five games per year) and generally call the game immediately before or after their child's match.

If a team cannot fulfill the OYSC referee requirement, it will be disbanded. We very rarely disband a team once all parties fully understand club policies and their intent. The fundamental reasons we hold teams accountable for the referee requirement is to encourage adult participation in youth sporting experience, keep are fees manageable, and promote general soccer knowledge.
