Once again, Orangevale Youth Soccer Club is hosting it's annual referee certification course ahead of our fall recreational soccer season. We highly encourage anyone 13 years and older and interested in the sport to jump into this exciting, challenging AND rewarding way to be involved with youth soccer. More and more games are being played every year and we need referees to officiate these matches. Demand is high.
So why get certified and officiate at Orangevale Youth Soccer Club? What makes us a unique club to officiate for? Here are a few good reasons...
--With the recent uptick in demand, the pay scale for game officials has increased dramatically and OYSC is at the top of that scale. For you younger folks, think $25+ an hour. I challenge you to find a better paying and more fun job!
--We run 3-man crews for every game U10 and up. We believe the sport requires it, so we meet the challenge. You won't be left to the wolves to manage a game on your own when you are just getting your feet underneath you in your first games out. We have your back. You can count on that!
--At OYSC we believe in strong mentorship for our newly minted game officials. We place our young referees in positions with seasoned officials to ensure that they are receiving real world in-game training. We like our referees to be confident and skilled and there is no better way than to be paired with referees who have seen a thing or two.
--When you officiate 3 or more games at OYSC, you are eligible to receive compensation for your referee licensing fees at the end of the season.

Step 1 - Online Training
****************************
Becoming a certified soccer official is really very easy. Use the following link on the US Soccer website to begin your journey:
When you go to register for the course you will need to establish a US Soccer account, and you will be on your way. The cost for the course is $75. The majority of the class is online. You will complete the modules teaching the Laws of the Game, player safety and some game mechanics. There is a test at the end which you will pass and then the course culminates in a 3 hour "field session" where we will go through some live flag and whistle mechanics as well as critical game aspects such as spotting an offside.

Step 2 - Field Training
****************************
Our mandatory field session will be held on Sunday, August 13th from 9:00AM-12:00PM this year at Palisades Park. The address is listed in the course information. Once you have completed the field session, you will become a fully certified Grassroots level U.S.Soccer referee and join our group of officials that enjoy an aspect of The Beautiful Game that only a few of us get experience.
****************************
Step 3 - Connect on GameOfficials
****************************
The last step in getting games to officiate is joining our referee group so that our Assignor Larry Radcliff can assign games to you based on your availability. We don't give you games when you have your own game to play or other things to do. You get to decide when you have time to be available to referee and games will be given to you within that time frame.
To join OYSC's referee group, you will need to be registered on Game Officials. That is the platform we use to assign games to you. Once you create your GameOfficials account:
b) On the left side go to New Official
c) Enter the following information:
Group Number: 1453
Access Code: OYSC

That's it. Easy peasy. If you have any questions, concerns or problems with the system, feel free to contact us and we can give you guidance and/or answers to your questions. We've been around the block a time or two and will know how to get you unstuck and moving forward in your endeavor to become a full fledged soccer referee.
